Summer Playscheme

Due to the popularity of the Saturday Club we also decided to run a play scheme during the summer holidays. The scheme provides parents/carers with a much needed helping hand over this busy time of year.  The summer playscheme has now been running since 2003 and has gained very positive feedback from all of the children and young people involved.

The scheme runs over six weeks.  The first three weeks are for children and young people aged 8-13 years and the final three weeks are for young people aged 14-17 years

For the last couple of years the scheme has been held at Newburn Leisure Centre, overlooking the River Tyne at Newburn, Newcastle.  Its excellent location provides the children and young people with the opportunity to participate in a variety of water sports including speed boating, canoeing and bell boats, the children also took part in archery, trampolining, bike riding, country walks, arts and crafts and an array of day trips.

Here are just some of the comments we have received from the children and their parent/carers:

'I liked the Summer School because I had great fun and made loads of friends!'

'My child really enjoyed the week and came back happy every day. I think it was great having similar ages together'.

'The activities were great, I liked the trampolines, playing badminton, I rode a bike for the first time'.

"I liked all the different activities, it was loads of fun!"

In 2009, the Summer Playscheme was audited by ‘Investing in Children’, and they commended us on the quality of play offered to the children and young people
