If you want to work directly with the people we support, such as by being a befriender or arranging a group activity, let us know. Every volunteer has to have a CRB (Criminal records Bureau) check, which the Trust will arrange and pay for. A volunteer also has to provide two references. A named manager will be responsible for supporting the volunteer. We aim to ensure that the volunteer’s specific duties are achievable and understood by them. There is then an induction period, some formal supervision sessions and regular meetings.
People can be part of a person’s Planning Forum, are not need to go through a CRB check, as they are never alone with householders. As relationships develop and extend outside these meetings, then more formal procedures will be followed
The sort of activity a befriender can do is take someone out – to the pub, to go shopping, to go to a football match etc. They are there for them to talk to and share special occasions
Some volunteers want to work with disabled children and there are opportunities with the Saturday Club and Summer Playscheme
